Here are some of our most current and forthcoming projects.

Observation tower at kill creek park (FUTURE PROJECT)

The Kill Creek Tower is a long-awaited structure in Johnson County. Overlooking the beautiful Kill Creek Park, this structure is currently being planned and is one of the projects your funding can help us with.

A portion of the former 135-acre Meadowbrook Country Club is being converted into an 80-acre park, to address the shortage of park space in Northeast Johnson County. The design of the new park will take advantage of the open green space and mature trees that were part of the former golf course and will transform the property into a one-of-a-kind park.

This 1,980-acre future park site in southwest Johnson County will be JCPRD's fourth large regional park. The park's 22-acre Mildale Farm special event venue is on the northwest corner of the property and has been available for rentals, as well as spring and fall public events each year, since shortly after it was acquired in 2005.

Inclusive Playground Project for Shawnee Mission Park and Stilwell Park

The Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) is excited to announce the development of its first inclusive playgrounds. In the fall of 2017, JCPRD began planning for construction of one playground in Stilwell Community Park and another in Shawnee Mission Park (SMP).

Inclusive playgrounds enable all children to play together without physical or social barriers. Inclusive playgrounds are new to the JCPRD system, but are not to the Kansas City metro area. Each playground will have a unique design and offer a new play experience that children, parents, and caregivers in Johnson County will enjoy again and again.
